Mail Guidelines

Rules may vary from facility to facility based on prior security threats.

This is a list of guidelines another site offers you may want to review.

Under no condition should you forward a letter you receive to anyone! This could land you in serious legal trouble since there are rules about who an inmate can communicate with. For example, for security reasons most inmates can not write to other inmates. Additionally, they may be forbidden from contacting victims or family members of victims. This is never your responsibility.

Always put your return address clearly on the envelope.

Do not attach stickers to the envelope as it could cause your letter to be returned to you.

Do not include stamps or money as your letter can be returned. Sending money should never be the basis for a potential friendship. Understand there is a culture of manipulation in prison where people will take advantage of your emotions to pressure you to send money. You can learn more about this by watching this love after lock up clip. People who are being used for money are considered "tricks" not unlike those who visit prostitutes.

We have had long term friendships (only, never romantic)  with death row inmates. It was a faith based relationship to some degree, but the friendships would unfold naturally over time with common interests etc. Religion is always a good base for a friendship. The status of these inmates is undetermined.
